eCommerce Basics - ideal for startups and small SME organisations

eCommerce Basics sessions cover a diverse range of eCommerce subjects, and deliver an awareness of the tools and techniques required to improve efficiency, sales conversion, search results and more.

Our eCommerce Basics training sessions are aimed primarily at participants working in startups and small SME organisations.  Typically, participants:

  • may already have a basic website;
  • are looking for explanations of how web technologies can be combined to create a worthwhile and valuable web presence;
  • are considering whether an eCommerce website would be appropriate for their business;
  • are investigating how to plan their online marketing campaigns;
  • have perhaps been updating their website themselves, or in conjunction with a friend or colleague;
  • are trying to establish how to go about choosing a reliable website development or online marketing supplier.

We usually run eCommerce Basics training events as open question-and-answer sessions, sometimes around a core theme (Online Marketing, for example), and provide a participative learning environment.  Subjects that are frequently covered  in our general sessions include:

  • Basic online strategy-setting
  • XHTML, CSS and cross-browser compatibility
  • Accessibility and "search engine friendliness"
  • Usability and the importance of testing
  • Basics of Search Optimisation (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
  • How to begin trading online
  • Making sense of analytics reports

Events are normally run as a 2hr evening session or a 4hr half-day session, and if possible we limit the number of participants to 12-15.  The facilitator will review the participants' websites in advance, and it is helpful if participants can bring questions with them: there are no prepared notes for these sessions, and everything is geared around the specifics of the participants' own websites.

These sessions are frequently run as part of a wider programme - for example

  • We have delivered the eCommerce Basics training session on many occasions as part of the North Edinburgh Business Incubator's business startup training programme.
  • Recently we also delivered an eCommerce Basics training session themed around Online Marketing for West Lothian Chamber of Commerce.

eCommerce Basics training can be beneficial as CPD in many industries and can be delivered as an in-house training course focused on a single organisation if required.

We are usually able to deliver eCommerce Basics training sessions at short notice - please ask for details.

If you would like to discuss whether we could deliver a version of our eCommerce Basics training sessions for you, your members, employees or clients please contact Escrivo. If you would like more information or resources from recent training sessions then please visit our resources and feedback page.
