7 May 2008 - Online Strategy - eCommerce basics training course

Cameron Leask, managing director of Escrivo Internet Consulting, presented this short ecommerce basics training session as part of a half-day ecommerce training course - part of the "Essentials for Business" training series run by West Lothian Chamber of Commerce.

"...informed, engaging and very thought provoking. I took away a lot from today’s workshop which I will be able to incorporate within my own business."

Topics covered advice on ecommerce strategy, including:

  • The relationship between business strategy and online strategy - and the fact that "moving your business online" is as much about ensuring that staff and resources are equipped with the skills required to conduct business using the internet, as it is about having a "good" website.
  • Four website models - transactional ecommerce websites, relationship-building websites, brand-building websites, and content-based websites - which are used by businesses to connect with customers in their target markets.
  • Using a Capability Maturity Model for ecommerce to measure the progress of online operations.
"Very helpful... a great starting base for our website."

During the Q&A session at the end we also discussed a number of specifics, including the costs of eCommerce and online business solutions.
