Test your website in IE9
Published: 21 March 2011
The latest version of Internet Explorer, IE9, launched a week ago (14 March 2011). Does the new browser break your website?
With its newest web browser, IE9, Microsoft has delivered several features that developers had been asking for (including particularly better standards support for CSS3 and HTML5).
For users the biggest "visible" change will probably be the user interface, which clearly folows the styling cues set by Google Chrome, and a number of integrations with the Windows7 OS.
But if you manage a website, have you investigated whether your website is compatible with IE9? Do you know if IE9 causes your website to look wrong (technically: "renders incorrectly"), or breaks some of your website's features?
We're currently aware of a number of issues that are only visible in IE9 (including issues with font rendering and problems with some javascript frameworks). In one case we're aware of, a change to web server configuration settings is required to solve the problem.
This sort of issue can be detected and prevented by cross-browser testing, and if you'd like to do your own, you can download IE9 here. Or, contact us and we'll check your website for you, in all the major browsers, for free.
PS... we include our cross-browser testing service as a standard part of what we do in website development, and it's the sort of thing we do as part of our website support and maintenance service.
